Students’ livelihood in the corona situation
Due to the corona situation, it is possible that students’ livelihood can weaken for example in the case of a lay-off. Here you can find information about student grant, unemployment benefits and Kela’s policies on corona.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding the corona situation, you can contact corona@diak.fi.
Study grant
Kela has announced that they are taking the current conditions into notice in the progress of studies.
If you aren’t able to study because of the corona virus situation, your financial aid payments can continue even if you do not make sufficient progress.
The corona situation is a sufficient reason for a delay in studies, however the student has to make a clearance of their study progress to Kela (such as a document from the school).
The duration of your studies can be lengthened due to the current situation. Kela will announce more about the effects of the epidemic later and students should follow the announcements.
Unemployment benefits
The government has suggested part-time changes for employees’ and entrepreneurs’ unemployment benefits due to the corona situation. These changes are not yet verified and the new instructions will be posted on Kela’s website.
If you are laid off from work and the lay-off has started on the 16th of March, 2020 or later, you can apply for unemployment benefits.
This is only a temporary change and it will be valid until the 31st of July, 2020.
The unemployment benefit can be applied according to the instructions of Kela and TE services.
