“The learning environment at Diak is incredibly supportive”
– I chose to apply to Finland due to its outstanding education system, as well as its beautiful landscapes, clean air, and peaceful atmosphere. Finland is renowned for its safety and low crime rates, making it an inviting place to study, Edwin says.
Additionally, the rich and unique Finnish culture offers a fascinating insight into different ways of life, Edwin says.
– My time studying in Finland has truly been transformative, as it helped me develop independence, improve my language skills, and enhance my intercultural competence.
New skills and ideas
Becoming a professional and skilled nurse has always been Edwin’s aspiration, and he is eager to equip himself with research knowledge.
– I believe that attending Diak will provide me with new skills and ideas, which will strengthen my practice in the nursing field. The opportunity to connect with students from diverse countries and learn about their cultures and values is something I cherish, Edwin says.
Open atmosphere
Edwin would recommend choosing Diak as an exchange destination to anyone.
– The learning environment at Diak is incredibly supportive, with excellent skills labs, workshops, and field visits, all enhancing the courses. Exploring Helsinki and visiting Suomenlinna are unforgettable experiences, and I have been struck by the beauty of the city.
One of the most surprising aspects has been the friendly, informal way teachers and students interact.
– This open and approachable atmosphere encourages students to engage freely and share their thoughts and experiences.
Tanzania as an exchange destination
Edwin’s home university the University of Dodoma (UDOM) in Tanzania is also an exchange destination for Diak students. It is one of the top ten universities in Tanzania, conveniently located just 8 km east of the city center, with public transportation accessible from there and to there also from for example Dar es Salaam.
– The geographical setting and favorable weather in Dodoma make UDOM an appealing choice for international students. UDOM assists Diak students in finding placement opportunities in local organisations such as NGOs and hospitals. The learning environment is friendly, and living hostels are adequate to accommodate many students, Edwin highlights.
Rich culture, affordable living and new perspectives
Edwin highlights the rich cultural heritage of his home country.
– Studying at UDOM provides a wonderful opportunity to immerse oneself in this unique culture and gain different perspectives. Compared to many other destinations, the cost of living in Tanzania is low, making it a more affordable option for exchange students.
One should not also forget Tanzania’s breathtaking natural landscapes, he says, which include the Serengeti National Park and Mount Kilimanjaro.
– Tanzania is also praised for its peaceful atmosphere among most African countries, Edwin concludes.
Diak’s application period for international exchange is open from 20th January to 14th February. Learn more about exchange destinations and the application process via the website for international exchange.
