Bachelor’s Degree Programme in Social Services

The degree programme trains students for a variety of tasks in social service field in Finland and in international contexts.

Multicultural study group that studies in English offers an opportunity to interact and learn in a real international learning environment.

The specific focus of the programme is on community development work, with emphasis on people’s participation and empowerment, and on identification and fight against different forms of discrimination in societies.

The degree programme aims to train professionals who are competent to work for socially sustainable communities both in Finland and abroad.

Students learn social work and social policy issues from Finnish, European and global perspectives. They gain skills to carry out social analysis and action, to implement participatory research, and to analyse local conditions in relation to wider economic and social changes.

It is not possible to qualify as a Bachelor of Social Services in the field of early childhood education (varhaiskasvatuksen sosionomi) in this degree programme.

Entrance examination

In the Joint application (application period 3–17 Jan 2024), admission the Bachelor’s Degree Programme in Social Services is based on the International UAS exam, which is completed online. Please read more on the International UAS exam website.

In the separate application (application period 13–27 May 2024), admission is based on an entrance examination held on Diak Helsinki campus on 3 June.
