Study entitlement
The regular study entitlement period for a degree is determined by the scope of the degree programme.
For the UAS Bachelor’s degree programmes, the duration of the degree is 3.5 years (210 credits) or 4 years (240 credits). For UAS Master’s degree programmes, the duration of the degree is 1.5-2 years (90 credits).
If the degree has not been completed within the regular study entitlement period (normative duration), the student is entitled to continue their studies for one additional year (normative duration +1 year) without a separate application.
At the end of the regular study entitlement period, the students study entitlement is automatically extended one semester at a time for an additional year.
If the student is not able to complete the degree within the regular study entitlement period plus one additional year, the student should apply for a discretionary extension.
Discretionary extension of the study entitlement
A discretionary extension may be applied for if the degree is not completed within the regular study entitlement period and one (1) additional year. The discretionary extension may be granted to complete the degree if the scope of the uncompleted courses is no more than 60 credits (see Degree Regulation § 13).
Fill out the application for a discretionary extension on the Forms page and send it to your guidance counsellor for a statement. The processing fee for the application is €50.
Losing the study entitlement
The study entitlement can be lost for two reasons:
- The student has not registered as an attending or non-attending student in the manner instructed by the University of Applied Sciences.
- The student has not completed their studies within the normative duration plus one year. For example, if the duration of your degree is 3.5 years, the studies must be completed in 4.5 years.
If you lose your study entitlement, you must apply for a reinstatement of the study entitlement to continue studying.
Fill out the application to reinstate the study entitlement on the Forms page and send it to your guidance counsellor for a statement. The processing fee for the application is €50.
The decision on the reinstatement application is made by the vice-rector.
A student who has lost their study entitlement has the right to appeal the decision to the UAS Board. The appeal must be submitted within 14 days of being notified of the decision.
Withdrawing from studies
Withdrawal means that the student leaves the UAS and no longer wants to be registered as a student.
Students who are thinking of leaving should first contact their study guidance counsellor.
You must notify the UAS of your withdrawal by using the separate form on the Forms page. The notification must be signed by the student and his or her study guidance counsellor.
Study entitlement of open UAS students
As an open UAS student, your right to study applies to study modules on which you have enrolled.
In semester packages and competence packages, your right to study applies to the study modules specified in the description of the package.
The right to study is valid for the duration of the study module or package, and open UAS students do not have the right to retake exams or submit late assignments in the same way as degree students.
Please note that some of the study modules in our curricula have prerequisites i.e. requirements on specific study modules or contents that students must successfully complete before they can take another study module.
For example, it is not possible to go on placement until the student has successfully completed the prerequisite theory modules or other applicable prerequisites.
